The Online Office Hours Your Private Folder area is where each student and the professor can communicate privately. Each student will have a Private Folder that is automatically created for them when they edit their Profile in the Meet Your Classmates area of the course. The Private Folder eliminates the need to use e-mail to communicate privately. It also allows for all communication pertaining to the course to be archived along with the course content.
The first screenshot below shows what you first see when you open the Online Office Hours area. The second screenshot shows the information that is contained within the Instructions for Using Your Private Folder document. That document is one that is automatically included in most existing courses.
