Subject: Stand-Alone Evaluations
The written assignment evaluations are tied to a particular assignment. However, sometimes you want to give feedback on a group of assignments or on something other than a student's written submission (such as a mid-term evaluation, group assignments or discussion participation). Best practice shows that it is useful to provide students with rich, consistent, frequent feedback regarding their performance in the course and that a mid-term evaluation can be used to let students know what they need to improve on to be successful. To do this, use the Stand-Alone Evaluation form.
Access this form by clicking on the Open Professor Navigator link on the Course Map and then clicking on the Twistie next to Evaluation under the Create area of the Professor Navigator (grey bar on the left). The Stand-Alone Evaluation will then appear on the right hand side of the page as below. It is very similar to the regular written assignment evaluation form except that this one is not initially associated with any specific assignment or student. All the information on this evaluation will need to be entered. For an explanation of what information needs to be entered within the yellow area, go to the Outline View page. Most of this evaluation is entered the same as the regular written assignment evaluation form.
Add Name(s) button: click on this button to display a list of students in your course (it will be displayed in a small, second browser window). Click in the check box next to the student(s) the evaluation is for. For small group projects, for example, you can create one evaluation and then add the names of all the students who worked on it.
