Subject: Private Student Folders

The Private Folder area allows each student to post private messages to you and to see any private postings you have created for them. Reserve the private folder for personal questions related to grades, evaluation, the student's performance, etc. Encourage students to post more general questions, like "What format should we use for citations" or "Does two pages mean double spaced or single space" in the Question Area of the module. Also, encourage students to keep all course-related correspondence within the course. If students email you, suggest they post their question in their private folder if the question is private, or in the Question Area if the question is of a more general nature, that way all communication is stored in a centralized location and is archived in case it needs to be referenced in the future.

The two illustrations below show the link to this area on the right side of the Class Community Bar and the menu you will see when you open the link. Remember that when you as the instructor open the Private Folder area, you will see a folder for every student (who has added text to their "Meet Your Classmates" profile). However, when an individual student opens that link, they will only see the contents of their own folder.
