Subject: Publish Newsflash Announcements

The Newsflash area is where you put short messages for you students to see right on the Course Map. This will be the first message your students see each time they log on to your course, so use the Newsflash for key information or reminders. A periodically updated Newsflash is also an important way to let your students know you are present in your online course. Try to change your Newsflash at least every week if not more (you can display more than one announcement as long as they are short). You should also always date each newsflash.

The Newsflash area is meant for small postings of 3-5 lines or less. If your message is very long, post it on the bulletin board (described later in this section) and use the Newsflash area to direct your students to the longer announcement.

You add or edit your Newsflash announcements at any time by clicking on the "Edit Course Map" link at the top of the Course Map page.

It is also recommended that you archive your old Newsflash announcements by creating a Bulletin Board document with a Subject label "Newsflash Archive." This will then allow students who might miss an old announcement or dispute that something was announced to reference it there. Details on this process are located in the Step-by-Step Instructions: Bulletin Board Document page.
