Subject: Navigation Bar on a Menu Page
At the top and bottom of each menu page, you will see a Navigation Bar with an assortment of labeled links. The Menu Page navigation bar can be used to move to other content and menu pages in your course as well as to SLN pages outside the course.

The SLN Home and Student Commons tabs on the left are designed just for students so they can access their other courses if needed. Course Map takes you back to the main page of the course (you will find yourself using this link alot - as it is the quickest way to get back to the main page of your course from any location). The HelpDesk link on the far right goes to the SLN help desk area so students can contact the SLN help personnel if they encounter problems.
The remaining six links on the Navigation Bar are extremely helpful in modules where there are many discussion and assignment postings.
- Top of Menu and Bottom of Menu takes you to the top or bottom of the module menu respectively.
- Expand Menu expands all the blue "twisties" within the module at once so you can see links to all the documents and postings as well as all section titles. Notice that the Section titles are in black text (not clickable) while document links are clickable. Also notice in this example that the "twisties" point down, indicating that the area is fully expanded. See the Expanded Menu example below to view the results of the Expand Menu command.
- Collapse Menu condenses all the documents in the module into the section titles (i.e., it closes all the blue twisties). Notice is this example that the twistie beside each section title is pointed to the right, indicating that there are collapsed (hidden) items under the title. In the Collapse Menu diagram, notice that you see only the black section titles. There are no clickable links except the twisties themselves. Click on a specific twistie or click on the Expand Menu tab to open the section(s) back up so you can see the content links.

In an extremely long module, the Next Menu Section would take you to the rest of the documents in the module. It would be the only way that you could access all the documents. (If you hit this link and there is no Next Menu Section, it will show you the last document from the previous or only module menu.) Previous Menu Section would return you to the first part of the module.
