Subject: Questions for this module

Is Ehrenhalt's view of the 1950's unrealistically rosy? If you didn't live through them--and perhaps even if you did-- what would be the most "objective" way of finding out?

What are the most reliable media for helping us to understand a time in the recent past, such as the 'Fifties? Or, are all of them encumbered with a point of view? Is this necessarily bad?

Was it easier to be a parent, then? There was more respect for authority, but more people were ready to monitor your children's behavior--and perhaps yours.

What are some of the tradeoffs between "freedom" and "authority"? When one's choices are fewer, is perhaps freedom "greater," because the options are less complicated?
