Subject: Discussion for Module #6 Tensions in Community: Globalization (Start: November 10, 2003 End: November 23, 2003).

Reflect

Barber concludes (pre-9/11) that McWorld will (eventually) triumph over Jihad. Do you think the 2001 "Introduction" changed this view? What do you think, about the longevity of each? He seems to believe that both Jihad and McWorld make democracy impossible. In Part 1, he has focused on McWorld. Do you think he has made the case?

Another discussion thread might have to do with the relationship between Barber and Bellah et al. Do you think they are in fundamental agreement? Barber, of course, kicks up the argument to a global, compared to a national, level. But, are they in fundamental agreement? Which book is the more realistic? Why?

Yet a third thread: your and our collective understanding of "social change." How has it evolved during the past two months or so?

Feel free to begin your own thread, such as "is anyone else as lost as I am?"
