The Center for Distance Learning enrolls 3,000 online students and coordinates 20,000 online enrollments. The online program of the Center for Distance Learning is a mature program. Comprehensive academic and student services can be reviewed on the web at http://www.esc.edu/CDL. Online services include academic advising, information systems, orientation, assessment of prior learning and development programs along with all administrative services. Empire State College is a diverse community, both in terms of faculty and students. Our students come from all states and many countries. Special Programs enhance diversity in our student population such as programs with the military, targeted programs with corporations or organizations in cities and in unionized employment groups, and in international partnerships. Students are primarily working adults, with the average age of students in their 30’s.

This is a professional academic services position with primary responsibility for academic advisement for online undergraduate students, prospective student advisement, and recruitment of students as part of an advising team. The professional works using the telephone, e-mail, and other web-based resources to provide information and support to students from first contact with the Center through graduation. This involves degree planning and direct problem-solving with students, responding to student inquiries, conducting follow-up recruitment calls, teaching orientation and educational planning studies, pre-enrollment advising and working with prior learning assessment.
Minimum Qualifications:
Master’s degree required. The successful candidate should have several of the following qualifications:
- Recent experience of academic advising and teaching adult learners.
- Academic advising/teaching/training experience in the online environment.
- Experience in student services, academic services delivery, mentoring adult students or prior learning assessment.
- Effective communication skills such as writing, telephone communication.
- Evidence of administration, organization and teamwork skills, and a flexible and adaptive approach to problem solving.
- Evidence of the ability to think creatively about new approaches to providing quality programming for adult learners.
- Experience with promoting student diversity, recruitment, and retention.

Work location is Saratoga Springs, New York. Faculty development and student services programs are also delivered on weekends and evenings.
