Describe how will you interact with students at a distance: | This study is part of the Understanding Medical Cannabis Residency with a mandatory on-site meeting March 9-10, 2018 at the Manhattan location (Hudson St.) in New York City. Prior to and after the on-site meeting, students will interact with their instructor online through Moodle. Students traveling from a distance can apply for $150 travel grant.

Description: | Emerging from the national trend to legalize medical cannabis in the United States, this upper-level, liberal study will provide students with an interdisciplinary foundation of knowledge in this rapidly evolving area. Through readings, self-reflection, discussions, media, and written assignments, the topics to be explored are: the historical and cultural context of marijuana in the United States; history and debates surrounding the legalization and criminalization of marijuana; scientific evidence and debates regarding the use of medical cannabis; the ethnobotanical origins of cannabis as a medicine; the impact of medical cannabis legislation and policy on patients and caregivers.
