Description:
"This is the way the world ends; not with a bang or a whimper, but with zombies breaking down the back door."-Amanda Hocking

Our society is currently entranced with the concept of zombies. We see it in television, film, as part of a 5K run, and we even can go to a zombie prom. What does this fascination with the zombie apocalypse teach us about our psychology? In this study, we will explore a zombie apocalypse from a psychological perspective. We will not only explore how the current trend in zombies reflects our current mindsets and perspectives, but also look at how our psychology could be affected by a zombie apocalypse and how it could help us survive. Topics to be discussed include PTSD and the stress response as it relates to the zombie apocalypse, what evolutionary psychology can teach us about how to survive a zombie apocalypse, how our cognition changes during survival, and how psychologically we react to survival conditions (i.e. starvation, homelessness, isolation, etc). As part of the study, we will be reading and viewing different materials that discuss and reflect on the psychological aspects of a zombie apocalypse.
