Description: | In this advanced study, students will explore the sexual revolution of the 1960s and 70s through mainstream American films. Several notable films deal directly with the sexual explosion following the advent of birth control pills in the mid-1960s. This trend ended with the introduction of the AIDS virus in the early 1980s. Students will read literature about the sexual revolution, and view films from a list provided by the instructor. Students will apply theoretical frameworks learned from the readings to the films and write short essays about two films. Students will also analyze a film of their choice for a longer final paper. Students are expected to purchase, rent or borrow copies of all films required for this course. The instructor will not loan copies of films to students. |
