Subject: How to Use These Resources
Any way you want to...
Seriously, now, you really can use these resources in any way that makes sense to you and your mentor.
Self-Assess to Choose Courses
Test out some of your own academic and learning skills by doing the self-assessments. Discuss the results with your mentor and use the results to help you decide whether to take courses in writing, math, critical thinking, information literacy, and/or introduction to guided independent study. There are many self-assessments included in the resources.
Preview the Contents of Educational Planning Courses
Preview the contents of many of the Educational Planning (EP) courses offered through the Center for Distance Learning. The formal courses will add timing, a group discussion experience, required assignments, and faculty feedback to the content that you see in these resources--but you can get a sense of that content and whether some of the courses are appropriate for you.
Consider Educational Issues
How do adult students deal with college? Why is liberal education important? How is your profession changing and what's going to be expected of an employee with a college degree? Educational Planning Resources contains links to many articles that delve more deeply into questions related to adults, higher education, the contemporary workforce, and the nature of college degrees.
Develop Your Own EP Workshop with your Mentor
If none of the EP Workshop courses is appropriate for you, you can mix and match content from these resources to tailor a workshop to best meet your needs.
Review End Results of Educational Planning
Read other students' degree plans and rationale essays. Listen to a CDL Assessment Committee discussion of student degree plans and rationale essays.
There are many ways to work with these resources. Review the resources, choose to look more carefully at those that interest you, and talk with your mentor about how to proceed.
