Description: | Empire State College’s Center for Graduate Programs in Saratoga Springs, NY, seeks applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position in our MBA program. The appointment will be effective January 2010. The successful candidate will have a doctorate in Operations Management, Management Science, or in closely related discipline, and be able to teach MBA core and elective courses in operations management; teach online; participate in residencies; mentor and advise students; serve on appropriate committees; and follow an effective professional development plan.
The Center for Graduate Programs serves over 1,000 students per year in five master’s degree programs. All courses in the Center have an online component. The role of the faculty member is to provide high-quality educational services to students and to enhance the college’s reputation within the community. Involvement in college governance is also expected.
Empire State College was founded in 1971 as a comprehensive, public college within the State University of New York. A recognized leader in offering innovative degree programs for motivated adults, the college enrolls 19,000 students annually in associate, bachelor’s and master’s programs at 35 locations across New York State and online. The college is committed to building a culturally diverse faculty and multicultural learning environment. Faculty members work with students in one-on-one, seminar, residency-based, blended and online learning modes at the graduate and undergraduate levels; the mix varies by setting. Central to the faculty role is helping adults from diverse cultural backgrounds design and carry out individually designed degrees. The college is a pioneer in mentoring adult learners, prior learning assessment and online learning. Minimum Qualifications: | The successful candidate will have an earned doctorate in Operations Management, Management Science or a related field. This candidate must have teaching experience in decision making, operations strategy, supply chain management, resource planning, linear programming, project scheduling, decision analysis, and forecasting. Evidence of successful research program in business and management areas and interactions with the business community are critical.
Minimum Qualifications: 1) a doctorate in operations management or management science; 2) demonstrated knowledge and application of current operations management and management science; 3) possess excellent oral and written communication skills; 4) demonstrate ability to work within a collaborative faculty environment; 5) demonstrate desire to engage with students online and during residencies; and 6) experience and evidence of excellence in teaching at the MBA level. |
Preferred Qualifications: | Candidates with demonstrated knowledge of adult learning and innovative program delivery, as well as those who have professional or consulting experience, and a demonstrated commitment to diversity issues in higher education are preferred. Strong preference will also be given to candidates with professional experience, strong quantitative or technical background with graduate level training in business administration or finance.
We seek candidates with the ability to teach a wide range of course offerings in supply chain management, service operations, operations-finance interface, project management and technology management; skills in the design and delivery of contents using online instruction; assessment of functional knowledge and competencies; and pedagogical experience in cross-disciplinary faculty teamwork.
All members of the Center for Graduate Programs should be prepared to work in an organization which is evolving in its technological sophistication and its practice of openness and agility. We therefore hope that candidates bring some level of technical experience (or a strong willingness to learn) and are willing to work in a collaborative team based environment with a great deal of project based work. |
Special Information (e.g., travel required, evening hours, etc.): | The MBA program requires teaching in several residency weekends per year. Office hours will vary to accommodate student and program needs. Some travel required. |
Rank/Salary: | Tenure-track, Assistant Professor, 12-month appointment, salary $72,000 - $75,000. |
