Description: | The Retention Specialist reports to the Coordinator of Student Services. Specific responsibilities are to:
- Develop and implement retention programs at the center by following up on existing initiatives and identifying new outreach opportunities.
- Work in a team environment with the Director of Academic Support, Director of Academic Review, and Coordinator of Student Services to promote student success through special programs, improved processes, and outreach campaigns.
- Review student records for retention issues; follow up on progress through personal contact and correspondence.
- Coach students through administrative barriers that are preventing them from progressing towards their degree.
- Coordinate conferences or referrals to appropriate offices, such as Student Financial Services (financial aid and payment), Registrar, and Office of Academic Review to resolve individual student problems.
- Document and track student issues; prepare periodic reports on service issues.
- Implement college Satisfactory Academic Progress policies and procedures at the Center.
- Counsel academically dismissed students on reinstatement process.
- Assist Coordinator of Student Services with the planning and delivery of orientation.
- Conduct special topics workshops (e.g., academic progress, using the college’s online resources, and resume writing). |
Minimum Qualifications: | Bachelor’s degree required. Experience in student services (counseling, advising, or similar); excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills; ability to organize prioritize, problem-solve, collaborate and work independently; effective listening, probing, and assessment skills; and excellent computer skills also required. |
Preferred Qualifications: | Master’s degree preferred. Experience in adult and non-traditional education; experience using student tracking databases is also preferred. |
Special Information (e.g., travel required, evening hours, etc.): | Some evenings and occasional travel to central offices in Saratoga Springs is required. |
Rank/Salary: | $40,000 - $45,000 |
