Description: | SUNY Empire State College is currently looking for a Network Engineer to join our team at our Saratoga Springs, NY site. The chosen candidate will have broad and deep understanding of enterprise networking at all levels of the OSI model. The candidate will also have demonstrated experience using this understanding to advance organizational objectives and provide excellent customer service.
Key responsibilities are:
- Manage and upgrade large complex enterprise infrastructure
- Design, implement, document and support secure LAN and WAN networks
- Resolve outages and initial circuit activation by working directly with service providers.
- Monitor and troubleshoot network performance and security issues
- Document detailed descriptions and diagrams as required
Participate in 24x7x365 on-call coverage |
Minimum Qualifications: | - B.S./B.A. in Computer Science, Information Systems, Electrical/Computer Engineering or equivalent experience
- 6+ years of direct Network Engineering and design experience in a multiple physical location environment
- Expert working knowledge (including the ability to setup, configure, upgrade, manage, and troubleshoot) with a wide array of equipment including Cisco, Packeteer, Extreme Networks, Avaya, AdTran and SonicWALL.
- Knowledge of QoS tools and techniques
- Demonstrated experience maintaining and upgrading complex and highly-available networks
- Experience deploying, maintaining and upgrading wide variety of router & switch hardware
- High level of comfort using command-line interfaces and scripting languages
- Extensive knowledge of IP routing and IP routing protocols
- Very strong hands-on skills with extensive experience in the troubleshooting and solving complex network related issues
- Strong organizational, customer service and communication skills

Preferred Qualifications: | - Experience with network management systems
- Familiarity with Unix/Linux system administration |

Rank/Salary: | $50,000 - $55,000 |
