GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Working with a team of staff in the Office of the President and with others across the college, the Assistant is responsible for leveraging the President’s time and energy in order to maximize his effectiveness by:
- interacting effectively with the entire college (sometimes as the formal liaison to the President) and generating the goodwill to move issues and projects forward;
- being an active and engaged member of the college community;
- serving as a gracious and helpful point person for key external contacts;
- thinking and behaving strategically, and looking for creative solutions to issues;
- convening the right people to address issues as required;
- drafting or editing proposals, presentations, reports and communications;
- managing assigned projects and partnerships.

SPECIFIC DUTIES
- provide support to the Cabinet and President’s Council (agendas, minutes, background materials, follow up);
- provide support to the President at other internal and external meetings, including the preparation of briefing notes and background research;
- manage communications systems to keep the President organized and in touch at all times;
- host visiting VIPs;
- travel as required with the President;
- provide back-up to the rest of the staff in the Office of the President.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
The Assistant to the President is:
- highly organized, efficient and trustworthy;
- an independent thinker and worker, able to ask questions to better define issues and tasks;
- able to anticipate the President’s needs;
- able to manage multiple tasks, information and relationships;
- able to pay strong attention to detail and to follow-through with minimal supervision;
- able to interact effectively with the public and other SUNY institutions and system administration;
- able to interact effectively with college employees and associates.

and the Assistant has:
- an understanding of current policy issues in public higher education, especially as they relate to SUNY;
- an enthusiasm for the college’s mission;
- the maturity and grace to manage complex relationships and issues;
- patience, flexibility and a sense of humor;
- a strong work ethic and high regard for confidentiality;
- excellent analytical skills to extract and verify data;
- experience in project management.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree; relevant experience; excellent written and verbal skills; excellent time management skills; proficiency with MS Office, internet research and communications systems; the ability to travel with the President; a valid driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications:
Some post-graduate education and successful experience working in public higher education, especially in New York state.
Special Information (e.g., travel required, evening hours, etc.):
Rank/Salary:
$75,000 to $90,000
