Description: | The Special Events Coordinator reports to the Vice President of Communications and Government Relations and assumes full responsibility for developing and implementing all aspects of planning and execution of selected college activities and initiatives for internal and external audiences.
Additionally, the Special Events Coordinator:
- assists, when needed, the Director of Student and Alumni Relations, the Director of Government Relations and the Office of Academic Affairs in event planning and execution;
- participates in team development and implementation of strategies for national and state public relations campaigns involving special events components;
- manages inventory of promotional items for the Office of College Relations
The primary responsibility of the Special Projects and Events Coordinator is to enhance, through successful event planning, the college’s reputation and develop methods to measure the effectiveness of such events. The Special Events Coordinator is expected to be creative, imaginative, innovative, detail oriented and highly skilled at multi-tasking. |
Minimum Qualifications: | Bachelor’s degree, preferably in public relations or a related field.
Experience in development and management of all aspects of special events.
Ability to establish and adhere to event timelines and budgets.
Capability of negotiating terms and pricing of contacts with a broad range of vendors.
Skill at assembling and supervising event teams and working with diverse constituencies.
Technological competence, computer mastery and ease in communicating using Web 2.0 technologies.
Excellent oral and written communications skills and strong interpersonal skills. |
Preferred Qualifications: | Experience with managing the public relations associated with special events.
Familiarity with technical specifications for audio and video support of special events.
Knowledge of Empire State College and the State University of New York.
Enthusiasm for envisioning and executing special events that will extend the college’s image and reputation on national and international levels. |
Special Information (e.g., travel required, evening hours, etc.): | Some travel, occasional weekend and evening hours expected. |
Rank/Salary: | $50,000-$55,000 |
