Description:
Empire State College’s Center for Graduate Programs in Saratoga Springs, NY, seeks applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position in our M.A. program in Social Policy. The masters in Social Policy is a liberal arts, 36 credit masters program serving an adult population of service providers/professionals. The program includes study of general social science, ethics, applied political science, and research methods and culminates in a formal final project. Primary responsibilities include teaching policy process and policy implementation/evaluation. Strong preference will be granted to candidates with interest in instruction of research methods, particularly literacy in quantitative methods. The successful candidate will teach courses in a blended environment; participate in residencies; mentor and advise students; serve in appropriate governance roles; and follow an effective professional development plan.

The Center for Graduate Programs serves over 1,000 students per year in five master’s degree programs. All courses in the Center have an online component. The role of the faculty member is to provide high-quality educational services to students and to enhance the college’s reputation within the community. Involvement in college governance is also expected.

Minimum Qualifications:
The successful candidate will have an appropriate doctoral degree and background in an area related to social welfare policy, public administration, or public health. Applicants should have a strong commitment to excellence in teaching. The successful applicant will possess strong communication and organizational skills and a desire to develop innovative learning experiences. Duties include teaching three courses per semester, scholarly activities, and university service. Successful candidates must have the potential to effectively mentor and teach adults from diverse backgrounds, actively participate in institutional development, and pursue scholarly interests.
Preferred Qualifications:
Candidates with demonstrated knowledge of adult learning and innovative program delivery, as well as those who have professional or consulting experience, and a demonstrated commitment to diversity issues in higher education are preferred.

All members of the Center for Graduate Programs should be prepared to work in an organization which is evolving in its technological sophistication and its practice of openness and agility. We therefore hope that candidates bring some level of technical experience (or a strong willingness to learn) and are willing to work in a collaborative team based environment with a great deal of project-based work.
Special Information (e.g., travel required, evening hours, etc.):
The Social Policy program requires teaching in several residency weekends per year. Office hours will vary to accommodate student and program needs. Some travel required.
Rank/Salary:
Tenure-Track; Assistant Professor; 12-month appointment; salary range in low $60,000 range.
