Description:
Empire State College of the State University of New York- HVACLS seeks candidates for a new Director of Academic Support Services position, as part of a major new initiative to establish comprehensive student skills assessment and academic support services at the college’s regional academic centers across NYS.

The Director of Academic Support Services reports to the center dean and is responsible for managing and providing effective academic skills assessment and support in the areas of college reading and writing, quantitative skills, information literacy, critical thinking, independent learning, time management and study skills. The Director works closely with the Office of Academic Affairs and the college-wide team of academic services directors to design resources and delivery of programs. The Director also works closely with the center dean, student services professional staff and faculty in developing and managing programs and services, and using college technology resources to support and track, the delivery of services and their outcomes.

Specific responsibilities are:

1. Coordinate academic skills assessments for all entering and continuing students.
2. Develop and coordinate the center’s academic skills support services.
3. Assess program effectiveness.
4. Serve as center liaison to the Office of Academic Affairs and contribute to the development of the college’s student learning outcomes assessment and quality review initiatives.
5. Other responsibilities at the discretion of the Dean.
Minimum Qualifications:
Master’s degree required. Significant experience with academic support services in higher education; excellent oral, written and interpersonal communications skills; excellent computer skills; ability to organize, prioritize, problem solve, collaborate, to work both independently and as part of a team; and, finally, significant experience with adult learners, trade unionism and worker education.
Preferred Qualifications:
Doctorate preferred. Experience with innovative academic programs for adult learners and trade unionists strongly preferred. A candidate with a demonstrated interest in providing academic support services in a non-traditional higher education, trade union or labor movement setting is also preferred.
Special Information (e.g., travel required, evening hours, etc.):
Occasional travel and evening work as needed to serve students.
Rank/Salary:
$50,000-$52,000
